Did you know that you can earn FREE cash back as you shop? 😀
You can! And, it’s now called Rakuten!
“Same game, different name!”
“In Japanese, Rakuten stands for ‘optimism.’
It means we believe in the future.”
Ebates has now fully transitioned; In May 2019, Ebates US switched its name to Rakuten, and as of today, Ebates Canada will also carry the new Rakuten name.
Yes – As a Canadian, you can shop using BOTH!
Rakuten (formerly Ebates) works independently with over 750 stores in Canada, and with over 2,500 stores in the US. This means that you can have TWO accounts; One with Rakuten Canada and one with Rakuten US. 😀
When you start your shopping trips through Rakuten, you’ll earn FREE cash back!
“Becoming a member is free! Stores pay Rakuten a commission for sending you their way, and Rakuten shares the commission with you as Cash Back.”
Did you know: There are several US retailers that ship to Canada that are not partnered with Rakuten Canada? But! They’re partnered with Rakuten US! As a Canadian, you can also start your shopping trip through Rakuten US and earn free cash back from US retailers such as Bite Beauty, Too Faced, Ulta and more!
The best part? All cash back earned through Rakuten US is in US Dollars, and is often times offered at a greater cash back percentage than what is offered through Rakuten Canada. This means you’ll earn a greater return on your purchases! 😀
What’s changed? Nothing. Just its name. 🙂

“Here’s what you need to know
What is Rakuten?
Rakuten is a leading global internet service company, with businesses that span e-commerce, mobile, banking, media and more. Founded in 1997, Rakuten is headquartered in Tokyo and employs over 10,000 people worldwide. The word “rakuten” means “optimism” in Japanese.
Why we changed our name
We loved serving you as Ebates, and changing our name felt a bit like saying goodbye to our first car or a favourite pair of jeans. But we’ve been part of the Rakuten family since 2014, and taking the Rakuten name most accurately reflects who we are today: a company that gives you all the Cash Back you’re used to, with even more opportunities to save.
What this means to you
Teaming up with Rakuten means joining forces with a global leader. Together, we’re working nonstop to reward you in more places and in more ways. Stay tuned for more exciting announcements and developments.
The site is not changing
The Rakuten site will be exactly the same as the Ebates.ca site, but with a new name and logo. Within the past year, we made some small changes to our colours and fonts, but not before doing as much listening as we could to make sure these changes wouldn’t detract from what we’re all here to do: get you Cash Back. We’re not here to mess with a good thing.
What happens to my Ebates.ca account?
Login using the same email address and password you’ve always used. If you have trouble accessing your account, our friendly Member Services team is here to help!
Where to find your Cash Back
Same place as usual! You’ll find your Cash Back balance in your Account either on the site or in the App. Feel free to navigate to “My Account”, where you can check your Account Settings and History. Your next Big Fat Cheque or PayPal payment will be on its way to you at the normal time.
Anything else to note?
Just some legal stuff. We’ve updated our Terms & Conditions as well as our Privacy Policy. We recommend giving them a read to learn more about these updates.
